Today we’ve got for you a simple iPhone tip that allows you to add funny emoji characters on your iPhone contacts and names. In my opinion I think it is a funny thing to stylize individual contacts and to bring an additional layer of customization to iOS. Other than being fun looking, it can also help to quickly identify names in the contacts list, get an additional visual indicator of who sent a text message, and the emoticons even show up with incoming and outbound phone calls.

Remember before doing this tip, I prefer to backup your contacts before doing anything new on your iPhone.. But don’t worry there is no harm on your device by making such thing…

Add Emoji to Contact Names in iOS

We’re focusing on the iPhone in the walkthrough, but technically this works the same on the iPad and iPod touch as well:

• Enable the optional Emoji keyboard through iOS Settings if you haven’t done so yet
• Open the Contacts app, or open Phone and choose the “Contacts” tab
• Tap the “Edit” button, then choose any contact name to modify it
• Tap on one of the name sections, then summon the Emoji keyboard by tapping the globe icon, choosing an emoji icon to stylize the contacts name with
• Select “Done” when finished
• Repeat with other contacts as desire

One of the main things I love to do is adding any emoji character to the “Last Name” as shown in the picture above.but you can obviously prefix names with them too by adding it before the first name entry.

It’s worth mentioning that adding emoji icons to names can change how they are sorted in the overall Contacts list, which defaults to using the alphabetical listing and grouping. You will find that where contacts wind up in the listing can change depending on where the emoji is placed, which is yet another reason that placing the characters at the end of a last name is a good idea, otherwise the icon itself will be interpreted as the first name or last name.

Here is an example of how this looks when you get an inbound iMessage from someone whose name has been stylized by an emoji:

Today there is a lot of ways to play games, you can play games on your iPhone or on your console. But would you believe me if I told you that iPhone and Android gamers spend 3X as much as handheld console owners ? Today and according to a new report by research firm IDC and analytics service App Annie which reveals just how far along mobile gaming has come. According to the study, users of smartphones and tablets spend nearly three times as much purchasing games on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store as handheld device owners.

The gist of the report: during the first three months of this year, spending on mobile games offered on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play store increased substantially while at the same time consumer spending on games for Sony’s and Nintendo’s handhelds declined.

What’s more, in the previous (holiday) quarter total spending on iOS/Android games surpassed what people spent on games for handheld consoles – Sony’s PSP and Vita and Nintendo’s DS, DSi and 3DS.

The numbers exclude ad revenue and only include sales of digital downloads and packaged titles. If the survey included ad sales, the difference would be even more pronounced  As the chart below shows, the Asia-Pacific share of total spending grew the most.

It’s interesting that 80 percent of all app spending on Android is on games versus 70 percent for iOS, but that’s expected given that Apple users also spend more on other apps than their Android counterparts. On the other hand, iOS users in total spend far more on games than the Android camp.

“iOS is now the leader in consumer spending on games, with Google Play likely to surpass gaming-optimized handhelds in 2Q13,” the report has it.

The rise of iDevices and Android’s ubiquitousness might reinvigorate the market as we’re now seeing a number of interesting gaming devices made by neither Sony nor Nintendo.

The latest example: Nvidia’s Shield project.

First unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, this Android-driven device is outfitted with Nvidia’s top-powered Tegra 4 chip, shaped like a gaming controller and has a built-in five-inch 720p display.

Today Apple has just pushed out a new version of iTunes version, the version is 11.0.3 and its size about 129MB. The most interesting thing in this new version of iTunes is it brings a lot of new features to the iconic app. The big ticket item, if you will, is a new MiniPlayer, which is a bit ironic given the release schedule of the jailbreak version of MiniPlayer for iOS.

The new MiniPlayer in iTunes 11.0.3 is very beautiful and I am very sure Music fans are going to love this MiniPlayer feature.

The new MiniPlayer also includes a handy progress bar this time around to track the song’s playhead location.

You’ll also find an improved songs view, which allows you to enjoy album artwork in that view. Lastly, you’ll notice support for proper multi-disc albums. Check inside for the full change log.

Unsurprisingly, the new iTunes provides performance enhancements. This time around you’ll enjoy better performance when searching and sorting large iTunes libraries. You can find the new version of iTunes now by visiting the Mac App Store, and clicking on the Updates tab.

Today Apple’s App Store has just reached a new milestone this afternoon. Just a few moments ago, the digital storefront passed the 50 billion download mark, bringing the company’s “50 Billion App Countdown” to an end. Wow 50 billion downloads ? That’s a big number… Don’t you think so?

The winner of the countdown promotion, who has yet to be revealed, will be given a $10,000 iTunes gift card, good for apps, videos, books and music. And fifty additional lucky winners will receive $500 gift cards… As it was said on App Store official Twitter account:

This is the third major milestone that Apple has celebrated since the App Store’s launch in 2008. The first one was for the passing 10 billion download mark in 2011. And the second came a year later, at the 25 billion mark.

Looking at the numbers, the App Store has seen staggering growth over its short existence. In fact, Apple announced back in January that it hit 40 billion downloads. So that means it saw 10 billion downloads in just 5 months.

Great news for gamers, today the giant gaming company Electronic Arts has just announced bringing its popular frostbite game engine to iOS and Android devices, that’s what the company confirmed on Tuesday in its official blog post. Developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, creators of the Battlefield series, the Frostbite engine supports Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms and powers a wide range of video game genres, from first-person shooters to racing game and real-time strategies.

A mobile version called Frostbite Go will target “all major mobile platforms,” Electronic Arts confirmed, specifically mentioning iOS and Android…

According to NeoGAF, the newly launched Frostbite web site notes that the engine supports a highly scalable model in order to appeal to the diverse array of platforms available on today’s market.

Called “one of our most exciting current projects,” Frostbite Go is meant to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms.

Efficiency in both our runtime memory and runtime performance are both key factors to enabling code and data systems to deploy content to diverse targets from XBOX 360 and PlayStation 4 to iOS and Android.

EA didn’t provide release date for Frostbite Go at post time.

The publisher is currently perfecting the third-generation Frostbite 3 engine, which will debut with Battlefield 4 this fall.

Today Siri got a new great update that iPhone 4S and higher will like it, today Apple has quietly  updated the digital assistant with a new, quirky attitude toward lengthy queries. So right now when Siri is asked a question (or given a command) that is excessively long, she will quote famous passages from notable historical figures like William Strunk and Thomas Jefferson on the subject of—you guessed it—brevity…

Don’t you believe me ? Well go ahead and try to ask Siri a long question, but make sure it is longer than

two sentences in length. She should respond with a snarky quote, similar to the one above from Thomas Jefferson. Here’s another new automated response:

“A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. (William Strunk, Jr.)”

There’s no word on when exactly the update occurred, but we found a discussion in Apple’s support forums that started back on May 4th. Users took to the forums to complain that the issue was preventing them from dictating lengthy messages.

So why did Apple decide to start truncating Siri queries? No one really knows. But the digital assistant has been having on and off troubles since it first launched back in the fall of 2011. Notably, it’s still marked as a beta product on Apple’s website.

The new 1Password lets you also search URLs for login items. As developer AgileBits noted in a post, if you don’t find what you need on the first pass, you will now see a button to expand search results to all fields.

If you want, you now can also share 1Password items from Vault Mode through Messages or email.

Unless you know what you’re doing, this could get risky and expose your sensitive data. On its part, 1Password lets you choose to share private information in either an encrypted format or plain text.

When an item is shared in an encrypted format, all your  recipient sees is a self-explanatory “Add to 1Password” link.

In my opinion, that’s a money well spent.

For those uninitiated, 1Password keeps all your passwords for web sites, net banking, services and apps, private notes, or any other type of sensitive information in a centralized, encrypted database that’s much tougher to hack than passwords stored in individual apps/web browsers.

The 1Password mobile/web/desktop apps and browser extensions let you manage and update your entries, autofill web forms, sync your 1Password database across devices through Dropbox or iCloud and even open web sites like PayPal, eBay or Amazon through in-app browser for total security.
